The Papers of Irwin Shaw, 1948-1963 1950-1952.

The Brooklyn College collection of the Works of Irwin Shaw consists of a total of 1cubic foot of material in two series. The first series consists of eight folders containnig Shaw's original typescripts of the novels Lucy Crown and the Troubles Air, with revisions made in the author's hand. The second series consists of two folders. Contained in the first is The Inhabitants of Venus, a story of Shaw's, published in the January 26, 1963 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. The second folder contains reviews for the 1948 novel The Young Lions, as well as a review for its movie counterpart of the same title.

Author Irwin Shaw was born in New York and educated at Brooklyn College; after graduation he wrote for radio serials to help support his destitute family. He became a successful playwright, which led to work on various movies, including both original screenplays and adaptations. He gradually shifted his emphasis to short stories, and produced a series of acclaimed stories for New Yorker and other periodicals.
